How to use the License Server
Overview
The RSF-1 License Server is a tool that automatically licenses RSF-1 on cluster pairs based on their IP addresses.
The user can enter keys into the License Server to unlock licenses. Once the licenses have been unlocked the user can use them to license cluster pairs.

From a shell run "java -jar "full/path/of/license/server/.jar/file"" e.g.
java -jar "/opt/HAC/HACRSF-1LSGUI/LicenseServer.jar"
2 Generating (Unlocking) Licenses
This section assumes the reader has read section 1 Running the License Server. To unlock licenses please follow the following instructions:
- Obtain a key from high-availability.com LTD (HAC). In this process you will give information to HAC that will determine the key that you require.
- Run the license server.
- Open the Admin tab as highlighted with the green ellipse in the image below.
- Enter the key into the text field in the top right corner of the tab, which is right of the "Key" label and will contain either a previously entered key or "License key goes here", as highlighted with the red ellipse in the image below. Please do not worry about spaces or punctuation as the license server can interpret all human readable ASCII representations of the key.
- Click the "Generate Licenses" button as highlighted with the green ellipse in the image above.
- A window will appear, please confirm you wish to generate some licenses
with the key right of the label "Key entered", as highlighted with the blue ellipse in the image below, by clicking the "Start"
button as highlighted with the green ellipse in the image below.
- The text right of the "Status" label will indicate the status of the license generation process, as highlighted with the red ellipse in the image above. When the process has terminated click the OK button as highlighted with the yellow ellipse in the image above.
- In the "Log" text area will be the result of the license generation as highlighted with the blue ellipse in the image below step 4. If the license generation was not successful the "Log" text area may explain why and what you need to do in order to successfully generate licenses.
NOTE: The pairs of characters B and 8, and O and 0, are not used due to the difficulty in distinguishing members of these pairs from the other member. Also lower case letters are not used. Therefore if you see these characters in your key a error has been made in transmission of the key, please go back to step 1.

This section assumes the reader has read sections 1 Running the License Server and 2 Generating (Unlocking) Licenses. To license a cluster pair please follow the below instructions:
- Ensure the cluster pair is set up on the correct network correctly (more details of this step will be added in future).
- Run the License Server.
- Click the "IP Entry" tab.
- Enter the IP addresses for each node of the cluster pair into the text fields to
the right of the labels "Node A IP" and "Node B IP", as highlighted with the yellow ellipse in the image below (which node you
choose for A and B is not important).
- Click "Set Node A IP" and "Set Node B IP", as highlighted with the red ellipse in the image above.
- Click on the "Temporary" tab or the "Permanent" tab if you wish to issue a temporary license or a permanent license respectively. If you select the "Permanent" tab you must have at least one license remaining. The label "Number of licenses remaining" indicates how many (permanent) licenses you have remaining. In order to generate more licenses please see section 2 Generating (Unlocking) Licenses. Note that the "Temporary" and "Permanent" tabs have coloured backgrounds, this is to reduce the probability of user error since these appear identical in every other way**. Moreover since the tabs are identical, the rest of this tutorial will only display images corresponding to the "Temporary" tab.
- Please wait for both the labels to the right of the labels "Node A" and "Node B" to say "DETECTED" as highlighted with the red ellipse in the image below; this indicates the License Server has detected the cluster pair nodes.
NOTE: If you have waited for an unexpectedly long time* and both nodes are not detected you can "test" the IPs to determine if there is a problem and if so determine possible solutions to the problem. To "test" the IPs please click the "IP Entry" tab and click the "Test IP ..." button corresponding to the node(s) that have not been detected. A window will appear (possibly for an imperceivable length of time) and then automatically close when testing is complete. In the text area labelled "Test Result" will be the results of the test. The information provided may be sufficient to solve any problems should they exist, for example you may have entered the IPs incorrectly, or a node of the cluster pair may not be turned on. When all problems have been corrected return to the tab from whence you came.
- Select a tier by using the radio buttons just left of the big "License" button as highlighted with the blue ellipse in the image above. For more information on tiers please contact high-availability.com LTD (HAC).
- The "License" button should now be enabled, please click it.
- A window will appear. Please check the information on this screen, as highlighted with the blue ellipse in the image below, is as expected then click the "Start" button as highlighted with the yellow ellipse in the image above.
- The text right of the "Status" label will indicate the status of the
licensing process. When the process has terminated click the OK button.
You can tell the License Server to automate this step in future by
checking the check box labelled "Automatically close this window when
licensing has finished." as highlighted with the red ellipse in the image below.
- In the "Log" text area will be the result of the licensing. If the
licensing was not successful the "Log" text area may explain why and
what you need to do in order to successfully license the cluster pair.

*the phrase "unexpectedly long time" here depends on your network configuration. Generally speaking ten seconds is an "unexpectedly long time".
**Additionally the user is required to verify their selections as explained in step 10.
