High-Availability Present at OpenZFS Paris Event

High-Availability were proud to present RSF-1 for OpenZFS High Availability appliances at the recent OpenZFS Event in Paris.

The presentation highlighted how RSF-1 can be deployed to make proprietary ZFS and OpenZFS storage appliances highly available and included examples of RSF-1 Stretch Cluster capabilities and how High-Availability optimise ZFS import and export to speed up ZFS failover times.

RSF-1 now provides advanced High Availability services to MySQL 5.7.

Wilmslow, UK – December 12 2013 – High-Availability.Com today announced that RSF-1 now provides advanced High Availability services to MySQL 5.7.

RSF-1 has brought High Availability services to MySQL in Multi-Master Replication and Shared Storage configurations supporting all major MySQL releases since 2001, and High Availability are now pleased to announce full support for MySQL 5.7.

As well as providing seamless MySQL failover between different database server nodes in the event of hardware or network failure, with High-Availability’s advanced MySQLMon monitoring agent, RSF-1 will properly manage user access to the MySQL cluster and will attempt to automatically restart any failed MySQL database instance.

Alongside other recent feature announcements, RSF-1 for MySQL also supports Stretched Cluster environments allowing for MySQL database servers to be geographically separated.

Available on most Unix variants including Solaris, the RSF-1 HA Plugin for MySQL has been deployed mostly on Linux platforms across a wide range of hardware and storage subsystems and to customers across all industry platforms worldwide.

 

RSF-1 for all MySQL 5.x versions is available from High-Availability now.

Open Storage Appliance Clusters

Interest in RSF-1 for HA Clustering in Storage Appliances continues to grow with a number of organizations looking to develop their own Storage Clusters using open storage and open source technologies on commodity hardware including illumos Clusters, OpenIndiana Clusters, FreeBSD Clusters and Linux Clusters with RSF-1 providing active/active cluster and active/passive cluster capabilities for HA failover. Many deployments are also looking for N+1 clustering capability to provide multiple storage pools across a number of storage nodes to provide maximum HA failover capability, maximum storage performance and efficient hardware usage.

Illumos HA, OpenIndiana HA, FreeBSD HA and Linux HA environments can all be achieved using RSF-1 to provide optimum Storage Appliance High Availability enterprise features in a myriad of topologies.

N+1 High Availability Clusters with RSF-1

RSF-1 High Availability Cluster supports N+1 high availability cluster configurations to provide optimum HA configurations and to minimize hardware redundancy.

In a traditional Active/Passive cluster configuration, a redundant server is effectively standing idle until a fault on the main server has occurred at which point it becomes the active unit and restarts the failed service(s). In an Active/Active High Availability configuration, both nodes provide active services and in the event of either failing, the surviving node runs all active services. This configuration is optimal in terms of hardware usage but a drop in performance can result.

In an n+1 cluster configuration, similar to RAID-5 disk subsystem configurations, a single spare server can be used to provide protection for a number of active servers providing optimal performance with minimal hardware redundancy. In RSF-1 n+1 configurations, failed services can be restarted on the single spare server, or any other server in the cluster that it has been configured to run on allowing total flexibility with regards to performance and hardware redundancy.

Solaris High Availability Cluster

RSF-1 High Availability Cluster is available for Solaris for managed failover of critical applications and services using Active/Active HA and Active/Passive HA failover, including Highly Available ZFS services incorporating COMSTAR, iSCSI failover and ALUA.

SmartOS High Availability Cluster
