Which database should I use?

Each database has its own set advantages and disadvantages so it is best to research the different database types database and use the one that is the "best fit" for your requirements. Since the API/CLI is used to handle any reading, writing and updates to the database, many disadvantages that a database type may normally pose are hidden from the user of this API/CLI. A brief summary of the different database types is:

GDBM

gdbm.jpg
    - flat file database (no additional services or processes that need to be running)
    - light on system resources
    - available on a range of platforms
    - data stored in a small, portable file.

JSONDB

    - flat file database (no additional services or processes that need to be running)
    - data stored as JSON objects in a JSON array
    - data stored in a small, portable file
    - available on a range of platforms

Other Notes

The performance of these databases is similar and there should be no noticeable difference in the time it takes to communicate with a database.
